Born in the Bronx, New York City, Mingo who is known as Domingo Luis Silvestre was born into a Puerto Rican family. His Spanish is not too good, but he understands and reads it to perfection.  Growing up in school, he was not into sports but had a knack to making people laugh and doing imitations. Frequently, he would get into trouble imitating his teacher and principal behind their back. His mom used "La Chancha" (The slipper) in order to discipline him. She would grab her slipper and knock him over the head with it.  He wanted to get into the comedy circuit, but tragedy came knocking in his door. When he was 18 years old, he lost his father in a holdup. His mom, who was sickly and barely able to speak English was in a pickle. Mingo looked for a job and got hired as a sanitation worker.
